a week went by

Let's see.
I left off right before Joseph arrived at our flat.

Joseph arrives. Whoa, crazy, "haha". We lived right across from each other last year. What are the chances? "want to grab a beer?"

Off we go. Earlier in the day, Gabor and I passed a small beer festival near the square Deak Terenc. It seems like a good idea.
It turns out to be a Czech beer festival. We grab two beers each and start wandering through the crowds. The first table we try to sit down at is a bust.

INTERRUPTION:NOTE: I am a dumbass. There is an SD memory card slot on my netbook.
Let the photos begin. Actually, I have no photos associated with this evening.

As I was saying.. the first table was a complete bust. Joseph and I sit down across from three Hungarian girls and say hey. They immediately reply with 'someone is already sitting there'. Cool.. whatever.
I must admit that our confidence in meeting the people of Budapest was shot for a few minutes, but soon enough we sit down and meet Bince. Bince is probably about 30 and lives and works in Budapest. We ask for advice about the city, and he immediately gives us the full rundown - where to eat, where to drink, which festivals we need to look out for, the dangerous parts of the city. He hits on just about everything in the twenty minutes we spend chatting with him.

We finish our beers and continue to walk through the city.

A few little conversations here and there on our way to the main event.

and as i am talking to a girl that i really like,... this entry will have to wait.

so long.

and i'm here

This will be short. I'll say now that it will be shorter than the rest, but I am lying. I won't keep up with this, it will be boring, and it will be far too brief to be of any value to anyone happens to read.

I am alone in Budapest drinking lukewarm breakfast tea and finishing a giant nutella muffin that has proven to give me a stomachache before I finish the last bite.
I arrived in Budapest this morning at 10:30am to the smiling face of the 23-year-old Gabor. For some reason I was expecting an old man to pick me up, place me in my flat, and drive away. Instead I got a nice guy that hung out with me until about 4pm. We checked out the flat, hit up a number of important stores, ate some goulash, and drank a beer at his favorite (and very cheap) pub. By the end of all this, I was incredibly tired so I said good-bye to Gabor and took a three hour nap back at my flat.

Woke up super disoriented. I hope the jet-lag doesn't mess me up too badly tomorrow. I hope I can sleep tonight.
When I travel, I just kind of walk around. So keeping to my travel habits, I walked around. Pretty uneventful. I got a handle on the metro and made my way down to the Danube river, the division between Buda and Pest (I am staying in Pest). Here was the biggest event of the day - the sunset.

Unfortunately I will not be able to upload photos while out on my trip (EDIT: found the SD slot on my computer...) (I'll see what I can do.. I might be able to find a remedy), but the sight was incredible. The sun dipped down behind the domes and towers in the hills across the river. The colors were comparable to the chemical-stricken sunsets of Baton Rouge and the light reflected spectacularly in the river. I watched the sun set while I wrote in my journal and got eaten by mosquitoes.

I must be off now. I need to make my way back to my flat to meet my roommate, Joseph. Funny thing is I think this guy lived across the hall from my dorm all of last year. He was a nice guy, but we had very limited interactions. I hope all turns out well.

If you are friend or family, I miss you dearly.
Best,
danny.
